Emmanuel Episcopal Center

The Emmanuel Episcopal Center offers a multitude of Christian-based services and programs to youth and adults in the Memphis inner city. The Rev. Colenzo Hubbard, an Episcopal priest who founded the program in 1989, serves as executive director of the center, which especially supports residents of two public housing developments near downtown Memphis. The center’s mission is to offer hope and the love of Jesus Christ in word and deed to the community. By providing spiritual direction, social service programs, educational enrichment, organized sports and entrepreneurial opportunities, Emmanuel Center empowers individuals so they may be elevated out of poverty as full participants in mainstream society. Emmanuel Center programs include:

  • Youth-N-Action providing after-school activities, summer camps, job placement and other opportunities for “at-risk” youth
  • Exodus providing educational enrichment, including tutoring and computer training, for individuals ranging in age from kindergarten to adult
  • Community Impact linking the center with other agencies which provide services, including weekly food distribution, community breakfast and devotional, emergency assistance with food and utilities, and the holiday child adoption program, "Operation Joy"
  • Inner-City Sports and Recreation Association offering team sports opportunities for young people to play golf, softball, baseball, soccer, softball and t-ball
