Bishops Corner The Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee

The Listening Campaign

During the 27th Annual Diocesan Convention, Bishop Johnson set forth his ideas for improving mission, expanding programs and facilities, and creating endowed funds. In May 2008, he gathered together the clergy and wardens of the diocese in two meetings, during which he presented an initial outline of potential projects for discussion. In June 2008, the Bishop formed a Commission to help him answer questions raised during those initials meetings and to develop a more detailed plan. In Fall 2008, diocesan-wide gatherings were held for all members of the Diocese to share their opinions.

Feasibility Study
In May 2009, consultants from The Episcopal Church Foundation led a Feasibility Study consisting of mailed surveys and personal interviews to determine diocesan support for the proposed areas of campaign support. Study results were presented on June 25th. Click here to download a copy of the report.

Listening Campaign Events
Bishop Johnson held a series of gatherings in October and November to which all members of the Diocese were invited for fellowship and to hear what fellow Episcopalians had been saying about our new ministry development plans for the Diocese. "Let your voice be heard as we focus our response to God’s mission."

The Bishop's Commission is a group of 27 individuals with expertise in one or more of the ministry areas that make up this the Listening Campaign. They spent the summer working to solidify the financial and programmatic details that will make this campaign a reality.

A large component of the campaign is expansion of St. Columba Conference Center. Click here to visit the facility's website.
